Pros
- •Solid performance with the Intel i5-1155G7 and 32GB RAM, capable of handling business and student tasks smoothly without noticeable delays.
- •15.6" Full HD IPS touchscreen offers bright colors, wide viewing angles, and responsive touch control.
- •Backlit keyboard is pleasant to type on, spill-resistant, and includes a fingerprint sensor for security.
- •Numeric keypad enhances productivity for number-heavy work, complemented by a dedicated calculator launch button.
- •Battery life is decent, lasting up to about 9 hours, enough for a full day of moderate use.
- •Sleek design with a metal-like carbon black chassis gives a premium look and comfortable portability.
- •HDMI output works well for connecting external monitors or projectors.
- •The laptop runs fast and boots quickly, with Windows 11 Pro providing a secure and responsive OS experience.
Cons
- •The fan runs constantly and can be very loud and intrusive, even during light tasks, causing the laptop to feel hot underneath and making lap use uncomfortable.
- •USB-C port does not support charging or video output, which limits modern docking and charging options.
- •The numeric keypad lacks LED indicators to show whether it’s in number or arrow mode, and arrow keys are not clearly marked, reducing usability.
- •The calculator key above the numeric keypad often fails to launch the app reliably, and the keypad doesn’t switch modes automatically.
- •Audio is a letdown: internal speakers sound heavily compressed and tinny, and headphone output quality is also unimpressive.
- •Right-side USB 2.0 port is very tight, making connecting or unplugging devices a struggle.
- •The unique lid design requires two hands to open and lifts the base, raising concerns about hinge durability over time.
- •The webcam struggles with lighting, automatically darkening images even with additional lighting, resulting in poor video call quality.
- •Expectations set by product specs can be misleading — the chassis feels more plastic than metal, and Dell’s customer support has been reported as unhelpful or frustrating in addressing issues.
- •Missing USB-C charging is disappointing in 2024, as many competing laptops support this convenience.
Bottom Line
This Dell Inspiron Touchscreen Laptop offers solid performance, a vibrant touchscreen, and a sturdy yet sleek design, making it attractive for business and student use. However, persistent noisy fan operation, limited USB-C functionality, and mediocre audio and webcam quality may frustrate users looking for a quieter, more versatile machine. The numeric keypad usability issues and lack of smooth support add to the caveats. If you prioritize a quieter fan and true USB-C charging/video support, you might want to explore other options, but if Windows 11 Pro, touchscreen, and strong CPU/RAM combo matter most, this is a reasonable pick.
